In the webdoc, you can hear:

  • [j] in: maquilleur, socté, voyez, rien
  • [ɥ] in: produit, je suis, puis
  • [w] in: coiffure, voilà !

The sounds [j], [ɥ] and [w] are called semi-vowels (or semi-consonants in French).

They usually appear between a consonant and a vowel:

e.g.: rien, puis, moi

The sound
[j] also appears as a single consonant, with very different spellings:

e.g.: aïe, œil, payer, maquiller, oublier
